Finding engineers should be done from an engineer’s perspective — your code is the best proof. We are building a global talent platform that helps companies discover undervalued talented developers overlooked by traditional hiring bias while providing them with better opportunities they didn’t have before. We analyze their code and activities on GitHub to get data-driven insights like hard skills (e.g., code quality and styles) and soft skills (e.g., collaboration and communication), with no degrees or exams needed.

Algorithm Overview:

GitRoll’s algorithm, the backbone of our platform, is designed to assess developers’ skills and abilities accurately and fairly. It consists of five main components, each playing a crucial role in the evaluation process.

Within our system, we leverage the expertise of a vast network of developers who have scanned GitRoll, and over 90% of developers endorse our evidence-backed algorithm, validating its effectiveness and reliability.

Our algorithm is built on the principles of reliability, security, maintainability, contribution, and influence, with each aspect weighted to ensure a comprehensive evaluation. We prioritize the detection of code quality through a combination of over 3000 rules, pattern matching, and linters, ensuring that only the highest-quality code is recognized.

Currently, our system scans only public repositories, focusing on recent projects with extensive lines of code to provide a more accurate assessment. Different rating metrics are applied based on programming languages and repository sizes, with specific thresholds for error tolerance tailored to each rank and repository size.

In addition to code quality, our algorithm considers developers’ open-source contributions, including stars on GitHub and participation in open-source repositories. We utilize big data and machine learning techniques to fine-tune our hyperparameters, ensuring that our classification set, established by our experienced developer team, accurately reflects developers’ rankings.
